The ruling by the Supreme Court of Namibia on 16 May 2023 compelling government to recognise same-sex marriages officiated outside the country outraged many political parties.

The prevalence of violence against children in Namibia is horrifying, tragic and on an unabated trajectory despite the country’s laws, policies and institutions that are supposed to protect one of society’s most vulnerable demographic – children. 

Namibia’s long protracted fight against colonialism, apartheid and imperialism in which thousands of our people lost their lives, is a long-lasting legacy of human rights violations by America and Western Nations; their only track record in as far as the upholding fundamental human rights and freedoms are concerned.  

Regardless of the period we explore the history of humanity and its existence, we shall agree that security shapes the reality of any given society. Therefore, in my view, security discussions should never be out of sight in public discourse. 

‘Do not do as I do; do as I tell you!’ Every one of us has heard this statement very often. It does not matter whether we have heard it once, twice, 10 times or a thousand times, but it is still not true! 

Namibia is an upper-middle-income country. It relies on mining, agriculture and fishing. Uncertainty may remain, but it can be transformed into planned uncertainty, with no surprises and with contingency plans in place.
