This year’s edition of Namibia’s biggest cycling road race, the Nedbank Cycle Challenge, saw a slight decline in the number of participants when compared to previous editions.

Belgian cyclist Victor Campenaerts and Namibia’s top female rider Michelle Vorster were yesterday crowned champions of the 2020 Nedbank Cycle Challenge after winning their respective categories of the annual road racing event.

Although there is a significant rise in the number of women and girls participating in sport, particularly in sport codes that were traditionally considered as masculine-only sports (football, cricket and basketball), there has not been a satisfactory upsurge in the number of women taking up coaching roles in those respective sports – be it at community or elite levels in Namibia.

Namibia Football Association (NFA) presidential candidate, Johnny Johnson Doëseb, strongly believes that if Namibian football revives its ailing fortunes, a new leadership with a clear purpose and a proven plan of action at the troubled Football House in Katutura will be of critical importance.
