On a cold Saturday morning, Collin Benjamin Sport (CBS) Academy proved their mettle by defeating Sunshine Private School 4-2 in an exhilarating U-19 division match of the MTC HopSol Youth Soccer League, held at the Trustco United sports field in Windhoek.
The game started with both teams demonstrating a strong desire to collect maximum points.
Both sides found the back of the net in the first half, heading into halftime with confidence and high spirits.
The second half saw CBS taking the lead once again, only for Sunshine to level the score at 2-2.
However, CBS’ relentless attack paid off as their strikers doubled the lead, sealing the game with a final score of 4-2.
Following the well-deserved victory, CBS head coach Gerson Katanga praised his team’s performance.
“It was a tough match against Sunshine, but we came into the match with a plan. The boys showed hunger and determination, which translated into maximum points. I am happy with the results, but I believe there is always room for improvement. We came into the match knowing what we wanted to achieve. The boys understood the assignment, and delivered,” he said.
On the other hand, Sunshine Private College’s coach Solomon Tsoka expressed his disappointment over their loss, but remained optimistic about future improvements.
“We are still new in the league, and are trying to adapt. But we can’t ignore the fact that we gave everything away easily.
We learned a lot from this match, especially since we played against one of the best teams in the league. We were not clinical with our finishes, and will go back to the drawing board to rectify our shortcomings. We must work hard to improve on winning second balls, which are crucial for capitalising on chances,” he said.
In another match played in the same division, Astoria FC triumphed over Kasaona FC with a 2-0 scoreline, securing bragging rights for the day.
Mammie Kasaona, who owns Kasaona FC and serves as a mentor for Astoria FC, shared her thoughts on the game.
“We had a game plan in place prior to the encounter. It’s three points, and it’s all we needed. I know we should have scored more, but we also missed opportunities.
“We always come prepared when we play them. We had to be aggressive from the onset – and when we got the opportunities, we made sure to score. We are looking forward to our next match,” she said.
Other matches on Saturday saw Riverheight FC thrashing Pioneers Boys 5-0 to collect maximum points, while Dama SA narrowly won 1-0 against Windhoek Gymnasium in an exhilarating match at the same venue.
The MTC HopSol Youth Soccer League continues this weekend, promising more exciting football action.
