The 2026 MTC Netball Namibia Premier League season got underway in thrilling fashion this past weekend at the Khomasdal Stadium in Windhoek, with defending champions Namibia Correctional Service (NCS) sending out an early warning to rivals with a dominant victory.

The new season features 12 teams, including newcomers Okamwandi United NC and Smart Girls NC, who both impressed despite opening defeats against experienced opponents.

In one of the opening matches, Nampol NC, runners-up in the 2025 season, defeated Okamwandi United NC 44-32. Although the newcomers fell short, they delivered a spirited and competitive performance that showed promise for the remainder of the campaign.

NDF Mighty Gunners NC also made a strong start after comfortably defeating Eastern Chiefs NC 50-32 in another opening-round clash.

Extreme Eagles NC wasted no time in asserting themselves as title contenders, securing a convincing 46-29 victory over Wanderers NC.

Tigers NC edged past Unam Ogongo NC 40-34 in a closely contested encounter, while defending champions NCS NC produced the most dominant display of the weekend with a crushing 76-19 victory over Namibia Navy NC.

Afrocat Lions NC also began their campaign on a positive note after defeating league newcomers Smart Girls NC 51-38. Despite the loss, Smart Girls earned praise for their fighting spirit and competitive performance against one of the league’s more experienced sides.

Round two continued to deliver entertaining action as Unam Ogongo bounced back to defeat Okamwandi United 47-38, while Eastern Chiefs secured a convincing 52-26 win over Namibia Navy. One of the standout fixtures of the round saw Extreme Eagles edge Afrocat Lions 40-38 in a tightly contested battle.

Defending champions NCS maintained their dominance with another emphatic result, thrashing Smart Girls 75-32 to remain among the early pacesetters.
