Chefs wet public’s taste buds

Home Time Out Chefs wet public’s taste buds

Windhoek

The taste buds of the public were put to the test on Wednesday night when chefs competing in this year’s Namibian Chefs’ Association annual completion were given the opportunity to appetise culinary connoisures.

The Chefs  have been competing since Tuesday till Thursday  to impress judges in different categories like Junior, Senior, Amateur chefs of the year at the Silver Spoon Hospitality Academy in Windhoek. This year’s event, hosted and very much professionally organised by the association attracted Namibian chefs from different eatery houses in the country Hospitality to demonstrate their cooking skills. Game meat, hake and chocolates were the main ingredients the chefs had to indulge with in preparing a three-course meal for the taste buds of the judges, media and the public.

Preparation and presentation of food, neatness and flavour were the main elements considered to rate the chefs. As a measure to ensure fairness judges were subject to a maximum of 10 percent in differing when allocating scores.  In addition to this plates were numbered with stickers rather than names to rule out the element of favoritism.

The general rating of the food tasting audience was that meals were sumptuous and excellently prepared excepting minor hiccups. Of particular interest was that more men were participating. The public opinion had it that the junior chefs outplayed their seniors with regard to preparing the delicacies.

The main prize-giving is tonight at the Nampower Convention Centre whereby category winners will walk away with, amongst others, whooping cash prizes and an exclusive opportunity to show their culinary skills in Dubai (United Emirates) towards the end of this year.
