Gabes Shiimi, who was arrested on Sunday in connection with a fatal shooting at Chicago Bar and Restaurant in Windhoek, made his first court appearance yesterday in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court.

The 30-year-old was charged with one count of murder and one count of discharging of a firearm.

The State alleges that on 15 June 2025 at Chicago Bar, located at Independence Avenue in Windhoek, Shiimi unlawfully and intentionally shot and killed Nande Simon Molukoshi by using a weapon.

It is further alleged that Shiimi unlawfully and intentionally discharged a firearm in a public place, specifically at or near Chicago Bar, which is accessible to the public or a part of the public, thereby contravening section 38 and 39 of the Arms & Ammunition Act.

The State, represented by Eric Naikaku, objected to the granting of bail due to the seriousness of the charge, and that the accused is further charged with drunken driving in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court, emanating from the accused fleeing from the scene of the crime, therefore, there is fear of abscondment.

Magistrate Monica Andjaba postponed the matter to 14 August 2025 for further investigation and legal aid.

Shiimi remains in custody.
