Child Brutalised in Suspected Muti Killing

Home Archived Child Brutalised in Suspected Muti Killing

By Surihe Gaomas WINDHOEK In what is suspected to be a ritual killing, the police at Otjiwarango are investigating a case of murder following an incident in which a two-year-old toddler was found dead in a black plastic bag with stab wounds in the neck, and strangulation marks. It appears the suspects, one of them already arrested, attempted to gorge out the unfortunate girl’s left eye in a killing that has sent shockwaves through the community. Before yesterday’s grisly discovery the child was reported as missing two days ago. The child’s body was found by the police at around 15h00 yesterday afternoon, after some concerned neighbours reported the incident to the police. Confirming the grave matter to New Era yesterday, Station Commander of the Otjiwarango Police, Chief Inspector Levi Richter, said that the child had been reported missing since Monday but it was only two days later that the child’s body was found dead in a black plastic bag. “She was found stabbed in the neck and possibly hanged with a rope based on the marks on her neck. But for the now the investigation is still fresh,” explained Richter. Although the modus operandi of the incident has not yet been identified, police at Otjiwarongo strongly suspect it is murder or possibly some kind of muti killing. According to reports from the police, two women were said to have been carrying the body in the black plastic bag apparently to find ways of disposing the corpse. However, they were caught out by some suspicious neighbours who cross-questioned them about their action. While one fled, the other was arrested by the police. Investigations are still ongoing.
