WINDHOEK – One hundred and thirty learners in Kavango East, Kavango West and Oshikoto regions this week became the latest recipients of the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship.

Since last Saturday until Tuesday, the Chinese Ambassador to Namibia, Zhang Yiming travelled to several schools in Kavango East, Kavango West and Oshikoto where he awarded the latest winners of the ambassador scholarship.

Schools that each received N$20 000 for outstanding academic performance by their learners are; Dr. Romanus Kampungu Secondary school, St. Boniface College and Noordgrens Secondary School, Elcin Nkurenkuru High School and Himarwa Iithete Senior Secondary School, Otjikoto Senior Secondary School and Joseph Simaneka Asino Secondary School. 
Almost 1600 learners, parents and teachers witnessed the ceremonies, according to the Chinese embassy in a statement issued yesterday.

Zhang was invited by Mary Phyllis Yesudas, the Principal of St. Boniface to attend the Annual Prize Giving Ceremony as the guest of honour at the school renowned for academic excellence.

Many officials graced the events among them Dr Samuel Mbambo, the Governor of Kavango East Region, Victoria Kauma, the Deputy Mayor of Rundu, Fanuel Kapapero, the Regional Director of Education, Mushinga Shinduvi, the Swapo regional coordinator for Kavango East Region, Erastus Kandjimi, the Mayor of Nkurenkuru, David Amutenya, the Swapo regional coordinator for Kavango West M. Hangula, the Mayor of Tsumeb, Alfeus Benjamin, the CEO of Tsumeb and Lamek Kafidi, the Regional Director of Education.

So far, the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship has already been awarded to 18 schools in Namibia, covering seven regions among them, Khomas, Omusati, Ohangwena, Oshana, Kavango East, Kavango West and Oshikoto regions and benefiting more than 300 outstanding learners and thousands of ordinary families. Every school gets N$20 000 for the Scholarship. In the near future, the project will cover all the regions around Namibia, stated the Embassy.
