Local singer and producer who described himself as a Jack of all trades for his multiple talents, Chubby Beats, is going solo, leaving behind his former band known as, Magogoz. He has been with the band for more than ten years.
Although the singer says they will still be working together with the group on certain projects, he is going solo because he needs time to focus and build his own musical career. “With the solo career, I simply just want to grow and explore new grounds and attract new opportunities, as well as challenges as a solo artist,” says Chubby Beats. He adds that going solo is a big stepping stone to elevate his career to greater heights. Chubby Beats was inspired by Kwaito dancing and listening to the likes of Mzekezeke and late Brown Dash. He grew up loving Kwaito music, which inspired him to start writing lyrics while just in grade seven.
As a solo artist now, Chubby Beats has also announced the release of his much anticipated debut album titled 73, which will be released on October 31. The album is dedicated to his late grandmother. It has 13 tracks, and Chubby Beats says fans should expect more videos and singles dropping every weekend. The young talented artist who does electric pop was inspired by the likes of The Dogg, and Damara Dik Ding who produce their own music. So far Chubby Beats has already released two singles, Faith featuring Karishma, and Something, which is a house jam.
On his album, Chubby Beats will be featuring the group of Ethnix, Chester the House Prince, Maruis, Emvee K and DikBones. He is also a producer and has produced for other artists such as, Samuel, The Dogg, Tre van die Kasi, Bobby WVDK, BnT and Karishma. He has also worked with a number of Namibian artists including Samuele, Tre van die Kasie and Jamaika Converse.
He joined Magogoz in 2004. Some of the highlights were releasing their debut single, Kandishishi in 2006.
In 2014, they released their first album, The Anticipated Big 4, with two hit singles, Mamutjavi (How are you guys?) and Nyembeze. Mamutjavi has been sung in English, Afrikaans, Oshiwambo and Otjiherero. Nyemebeze was originally done by a South African Afro-pop musician, Lazarus Kangudi. The group did a remix of the song. In 2014, the quartet launched a 19-track album called, The Anticipated Big 4. They have worked with artists such as The Dogg, Tre VDK, Fresh Family, Ompuff, Zanel, Kanibal and Miki Mouse.
