Jan Jonker, Immanuel Shifidi Meet in FNB Classic Final

By Staff Reporter

WINDHOEK

The scene is set for the senior soccer teams of Jan Jonker and Immanuel Shifidi Senior Secondary Schools in Katutura to lock horns in the 2nd FNB Soccer Classic Clash of 2008. The battlefield for the clash of the titans will be the Katutura Youth Complex, tomorrow. The match will be preceded by a junior soccer classic clash that kicks off at 12h30.

FNB Group Corporate Communications Manager Cassius Moetie, says the girls of Jan Jonker and Shifidi will intensify the international campaign of the World Football Controlling Body, FIFA, to promote Women’s football at all levels, especially at school in the form of a curtain-raiser at 13:45 tomorrow.

Moeties said the highlight of the day would
be the FNB Soccer Classic Clash derby between the Under 19 teams of the rival Katutura schools.

“The FNB Soccer Classic Clash between Jan Jonker and Shifidi is the 3rd in a total of six FNB Classic Clashes scheduled for 2008. The first FNB Rugby Classic Clash took place in Stampriet between Windhoek Afrikaans Private School and Elnatan, followed by the first FNB Soccer Classic Clash between St. Paul’s College and St. Joseph’s, better known as Dobra Senior Secondary School,” he said.

The FNB Classic Clashes is a new concept in Namibian sport, aimed at investing money in the development of youth.

“The FNB Classic Clashes have seven schools participating in the inaugural year of the FNB Classic Clashes with various schools competing in soccer, rugby and netball in an effort to intensify the rivalry that has always created an excellent atmosphere where sportsmanship should prevail”.

The remaining Classic Clashes for 2008 are:
– 14 June 2008 – Netball – Ella Du Plessis vs.
Augusteneum
– 21 June 2008 – Rugby – Windhoek High School vs. Windhoek Ho?
