Clever Boys of Unam record first seasonal loss

Unam FC suffered their first defeat of the Namibia Premier Football League season on Saturday afternoon after losing 2-1 to League toppers, Mighty Gunners, at the Unam Sport Stadium in Windhoek.

Bernhard Horaseb scored the first goal for Mighty Gunners, which Unam’s Ronald Kauvi later equalised. However, Horaseb scored another goal for his side, securing their win and causing Unam’s first defeat.

Speaking after the match, Unam’s coach, Robert Nauseb, acknowledged that his team started off very well, dominating the ball, but Mighty Gunners was a difficult opponent to defeat.

“They put us under pressure with long balls, which we handled, but we should have been smarter in the last minutes. We could have managed the ball better, but we will take the defeat and move on,” Nauseb said. Mighty Gunners coach, Katti Nambadi, said the game was very intense and tactical, but his side managed to defeat Unam with the same intensity as the game.

“The transition from our side was on point. We played our strong points, had the upper hand, and managed to score the winning goal,” he said.

FC Ongos vs Life Fighters

In another match on Saturday at the same venue, FC Ongos defeated Life Fighters FC 3-0.

FC Ongos coach Ronnie Kanalelo said they controlled the ball in all aspects, minimising the opponent’s impact.

“The boys came out and displayed what we have been working on,” said Kanalelo. Moving on, Kanalelo described his team as a work in progress, noting they still need to strengthen it in various areas and see how far they can go, taking it week by week.

Life Fighters coach, Bricks Kaaronda, described the encounter with FC Ongos as tough. He further attributed the loss to the team’s inexperience and emphasised that they just need more time and matches to improve.

“We have a lot of inexperienced players, but we are trying our best. It’s too early to say we will be relegated, just give us two to three matches and we will be out of the zone we are in,” Kaaronda said.
