Unam Football Club stayed on course to reach its target of finishing in the top three places on the MTC Premiership log standings at the end of the current term.
The Clever Boys defeated a stubborn United Stars 2-1 at the Rundu Stadium on Saturday, with Upengisa Ujaha and Shivute Ndemwadha scoring on either side of Murapere Mbudhi’s consolation strike.
In other action in the first of a double header at the Rundu Stadium, hosts Juilinho Sporting eased their relegation worries, albeit temporarily, with a shock 5-3 victory over the out of sorts visiting Tura Magic.
Elia Veiko opened the floodgates for the hosts before Edison Uanivi added the second to give the relegation-threatened side a healthy 2-0 lead going into the changeover.
Second half goals via the boots of Toti, Veiko Mashinde and Andreas Vitumbo all but put the result to bed for the determined and committed hosts before Theo Junias, Ita Keimuine and fullback Alfeus ‘Bwale’ Handura netted a goal apiece for the visitors.
Troubled FNB Orlando Pirates returned to winning ways – courtesy of a well-deserved 1-0 triumph over visiting Young Chiefs at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.
Ghosts’ lethal goal poacher Terry Uiseb netted the only goal of the match.
In other action, Civics had the better of the exchanges in their do-or-die battle against the visiting Rundu Chiefs – dispatching the league’s new boys 2-1 in a match that could go a long way in securing the inconsistent Civilians’ lodging in the country’s flagship league.
In other matches played on Sunday, Orlando Pirates defeated Rundu Chiefs 2 – 1, while Civics and Julinho Sporting saw off Young Chiefs and Unam respectively with an identical scoreline. Tura Magic defeated United Stars 3 – 1 to complete the weekend’s lineup.
