A number of artists and music enthusiasts gathered over the weekend to honour gospel singer Clive Willemse as he celebrated two decades in the music industry. Willemse gained recognition in the gospel music scene after releasing ‘Worship in the City’ in collaboration with DB Audio in 2006.
To mark the milestone, a concert was held at the Deeper Fellowship Church. Willemse shared with VIBEZ! the details
of his music journey, and the recent celebratory concert.
“It was part of my birthday celebration, which was on the 16th. I thought it would be a great way to celebrate two decades of worship and gospel music in the country.”
During the concert, artists who had collaborated with him over the years, such as the Now Generation, performed in his honour. This included drummers Pugh, Mark and Chico.
Willemse also announced plans for a ‘Summer Gospel Music and Food Festival’ this year, expressing excitement about the overwhelming response and the opportunity to promote gospel music.
In 2006, Willemse formed the group Clive and the Now Generation, now known as the Nation of Worship. He stated, “God told me that with this project, we would take the music and the sound from the city to the nation, and from the nation to other nations.”
The group has expanded its reach to the Asian market, particularly the Philippines, and has performed in Thailand, attracting large audiences.
Willemse also highlighted some of his major accomplishments, including performing alongside Joyce Meyer, Miles Monroe and TD Jakes, as well as hosting renowned gospel artists such as Doctor Tumi.
He emphasised the need to establish a strong brand for gospel music, and develop it as a sustainable industry. Plans include hosting a summer festival, and working on a live worship recording to offer new music to their fans and followers.
