Clubs gear-up for netball premier league showdown in Otjiwarongo

Clubs gear-up for netball premier league showdown in Otjiwarongo

Action continues in the MTC Netball Premier League this weekend as round three and four fixtures unfold at the Mokati Stadium Netball Court in Otjiwarongo.

With the league starting to take shape, all eyes will be on the teams aiming to maintain or improve their standings in what promises to be a weekend of high-intensity netball action.

Heading into the weekend, four teams – Namibia Correctional Service (NCS), Mighty Gunners, Unam Ogongo, and Extreme Eagles Netball Club are all locked at the top on four points from their first two matches.

However, NCS sit at the summit of the log standings, courtesy of goal difference. They are followed closely by Mighty Gunners with a +21 goal difference, Unam Ogongo with +13, and Extreme with +11, making the race for early dominance extremely tight.

Cuca Tops head coach Muyenga Mbava remains optimistic despite challenges her squad faces with travel and work commitments.

“Our players are putting in a lot of effort. Some of them live outside Rundu and others are teachers with demanding jobs, but they are still showing up and giving their all during training and matches. We are looking forward to the upcoming matches in Otjiwarongo and encourage fans to come out in numbers to support us,” Mbava shared.

Meanwhile, Mighty Gunners head coach Diana Mungunda is dealing with injury setbacks in her squad but remains confident. “Two of our key players are currently out injured and have been booked off, but overall, the team is in good shape fitness-wise. The goal is to maintain our winning momentum from last weekend, where we secured victories against Unam Jaguars on Saturday and Tigers on Sunday,” Mungunda said. -lmupetami@nepc.com.na
