Home Sports Coaches Association, Basketball School announce events

The Namibia Coaches Association, in collaboration with Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC), will this weekend host a skills development workshop for local coaches.

The planned forum is sponsored by the Olympic Solidarity and aims to share knowledge and skills with coaches from across the country. The event, to be hosted in Windhoek, starts Friday and will run until Saturday. It will be the ninth workshop to be hosted by the association.
Speaking at yesterday’s press conference in Windhoek, the Coaches Association’s committee member Marja Woortman said the aim of the coaching forum is to share modern tips and knowledge on athletes’ physical development and also teach coaches on how they should implement physical training within teams and individuals.

The workshop will also focus on theoretical and practical aspects related to specific components such as coaching for success and applying fundamental principles of coaching.
“We will have two women speakers and three male speakers for this event with a different sporting background. The workshop will also focus on the theoretical and practical aspects related to a specific component of coaching for success. Coaches will be introduced to the physical development of an athlete, and how to apply teaching principles in coaching and the application of fundamental principles of coaching in exercise prescription and sports performance amongst individuals and teams,” said Woortman. Also at the same press conference, it was announced that the NNOC will partner with the Basketball Artist School to host a women sport event end of this month, aiming to provide hope to young athletes, specifically women. Jacobina Uushona, who is the public relations officer at the Basketball Artist School, said the main motive of the event is to protect and give hope to young girls and women in general.

“The Basketball Artist School in itself is an afterschool program, which focuses on education, life skills and basketball. The program focuses on socially being present in the lives of beneficiaries, and the main focus is educational and social growth of the participants. This event will be under the theme “Stimulation of Body, Mind, and Soul through Sport” and act as a haven for young women, youth athletes, and the girl child in general,” she said.
