Commission sends Hardap back to drawing board

MARIENTAL – The Boundaries Delimitation and Demarcation Commission instructed the Hardap political leadership to conduct proper consultations with community members during a meeting at Mariental on Thursday.

Phanuel Kaapama, a member of the commission, in an interview with Nampa confirmed this.

“There were untested proposals and concerns raised by community members about lack of consultation. Hence, we instructed leaders of the constituencies to go back and conduct thorough consultations,” he said.

The engagement was attended by regional councillors and various stakeholders, including community members from the Mariental Rural, Mariental Urban, Gibeon, Daweb and Aranos constituencies.

Gershon Dausab, chairperson of the Hardap Regional Council said, submissions were received from the Aranos, Mariental Rural, Gibeon, Daweb and Aranos constituencies during the consultations.

The Mariental Urban constituency, however, did not submit its consultation report. Mariental Urban councillor Petrus Esterhuizen said his constituency was unable to submit a report because consultations with the community had not been completed.
“We will provide our input in writing,” he said during his statement to the commission.
The fifth Boundaries Delimitation and Demarcation Commission was appointed by President Nangolo Mbumba to assess the current boundaries of regions and constituencies in Namibia to recommend any changes to the existing boundaries, if required.
