Bank Windhoek in collaboration with the Chefs Association of Namibia yesterday launched the second Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Recipe Competition.

This year’s competition will feature under the theme, “Eat Healthy, Live Healthy, Prevent Cancer”.

According to the bank, anyone is eligible to enter this eatery competition. All that is required is that a participant should make a dish that contains apples. The fruit should either be used as a main ingredient in a main course, starter, dessert or cocktail, amongst others.

Marie Du Plessis, Communications Practitioner for Special Events and Media Relations at the bank, said through the competition her company wants to create awareness about cancer and to promote healthy eating habits, which in turn will go a long way in preventing cancerous illness amongst the public.

“With the theme Eat Healthy. Live Healthy. Prevent Cancer, Bank Windhoek together with the Cancer Association of Namibia, would like to take this message further by fostering in all Namibians a sense of responsibility towards their own health. Through the recipe competition, Bank Windhoek would like to encourage the public to follow a well balanced and healthy eating plan,” notes Du Plessis.

This year’s winner will have his/her dish placed on the menu of a well-known lodge establishment in Namibia, where tourists and visitors can taste the scrumptious dish. The winning recipe will also be shown at this year’s Namibia Tourism Expo, which is scheduled end of May.

As part of its social corporate responsibility, Bank Windhoek, for the past eight years has been the main sponsor of the Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project with the cooperation of the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN), of which the Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Recipe Competition has been a connected part for the last two years.
