Cop denied bail for inmate’s alleged rape

RUNDU – A police officer who is accused of sexually violating a trial- awaiting female inmate at Ncaute police station last week, was denied bail.

Constable Ruben Haimbili Kankono (32) appeared in Rundu Magistrate’s Court before magistrate Sonia Sampofu on Thursday.

He faces two counts of rape for allegedly raping the victim on two separate occasions last week.

It is alleged that while on duty, Kankono forcefully had sexual intercourse with the victim in the holding cells without her consent.

Kankono’s case was remanded to 17 April for further investigation. Michael Munika represented the State in the matter.
