RUNDU – Residents of Rundu woke up to sad news on Sunday about a 24-year- old woman who was shot dead by her police officer boyfriend. The man then committed suicide by shooting himself at around 9 o‘clock on Sunday morning.
It is alleged the woman was shot twice in her left shoulder and in her cheek and died on the spot. Later the suspect shot himself.
The woman has been identified as 24-year-old Nghidiwakusho Tuna-Omukulili Lamanguluka and the policeman was named as 28-year-old Lasarus Lasaru Hipanelwa.
Family members said Lamanguluka was out of town busy with sports activities and arrived back on Saturday evening when she phoned the boyfriend, who was not home at the time, to see if they could meet. Lamanguluka is alleged to have found Hipanelwa with another woman when she arrvied at his home, and a fight broke out between the two.
She was injured on the left hand but when she went to report the fight to the police, the police allegedly said they would attend to her case in the morning as they were busy with another case at the time.
The family said Lamanguluka went back to Hipanelwa’s place to retrieve her phones, but Hipanelwa followed her back to her place where he shot her.
In another report, a 25-year-old man was stabbed to death with an okapi knife in the left side of the chest on Saturday night, August 30. The incident occurred at around 21h00 that Saturday evening at Ndelipona shebeen in Kehemu location of Rundu.
A 29-year-old suspect has been arrested and was expected to appear in the Rundu magistrate’s court yesterday September 1.
