Cops foil N$28 000 stock theft plot

Home Crime and Courts Cops foil N$28 000 stock theft plot

TSUMKWE – Two men were arrested for allegedly stealing seven head of cattle from the Oomkrap farm near Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region.

The police’s swift action led to the tracking and arrest of the two men, and further investigation led the police to a hidden kraal where all seven cattle were found. The combined value of the cattle is estimated at N$28 000. Police could not release the names of the two suspects due to ongoing investigations and only mentioned that they are aged 51 and 39-years-old. According to police the thieves made use of horses to commit their unlawful act. “The suspects illegally entered the farm and stole seven head of cattle. The cattle where then taken to Otjomikambo village where they were hidden in a secret kraal in the veld,” said Otjozondjupa Regional Public Relations Officer Maureen Mbeha.

In an unrelated incident that happened in the same area a vehicle on the gravel road between Mkta and Tsumkwe hit a 29-year-old male. The victim sustained serious injuries, including internal bleeding, and was rushed to Windhoek. According to Mbeha the driver failed to stop after hitting the man and was later apprehended by police in Tsumkwe, who discovered the 35-year-old driver did not have a drivers licence. He is facing charges of negligent driving and an additional case of driving without a valid driver’s licence on a public road. He is expected to appear in the Grootfontein Magistrate’s Court today.
