Cotze ready for Smoke …Tobias promises an exciting event

Amateur boxer Peter Cotze has vowed to send his opponent to the canvas in the first round of their bout, featured at the upcoming ‘Together as One Part 13’ boxing bonanza in the capital.

The event will be held at the Windhoek Country Club and Casino, headlined by MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias boxing and fitness academy boxer Mateus Heita, who will square off against South Africa’s Thato Bonokoane for the World Boxing Association Pan African featherweight title.

In the supporting bout, Cotze will take on Walvis Bay-based boxer Jaycee Steenkamp.

Speaking on his readiness and expectations, Cotze, who has featured on a Nestor Tobias card before, said his preparations are going well, and he is in a good state at the moment.

“I have been training and working hard for this bout – about three to four months of work, and I hope it will pay off when I meet my opponent next week. In terms of readiness, I am ready. My coach is pushing me in the ring, and I will make sure I deliver – come 17 August,” he said.

Regarding his opponent, he added: “I don’t know much, but I have seen a couple of clips of him in the ring. I am ready, and I will beat this guy on fight night. I don’t think he is a big challenge for me”.

Meanwhile, trainer Tobias urged fans to come out in numbers to watch some of the country’s best boxers tussle it out in the ring.

“We are the biggest stable in Namibia and the continent at large, having produced world-renowned champions. For this upcoming event, top boxing will be on display, and fans will be entertained from beginning to end. I ask all boxing fans in the country to come out in numbers, and buy tickets,” he added.

Tickets for general admission are pegged at N$200, while VIP tables will cost N$20 000.
