Councillor pledges support for lightning victims’ family 

RUNDU – Mukwe constituency councillor and chairperson of the Kavango East regional council, Damian Maghambayi has urged good Samaritans to assist a family that lost three children due to a lightning strike last week.

The lightning bolt hit Katenture village, in the Mukwe constituency of Kavango East, killing three children dead. One person survived the incident which happened at around 17h00 on Wednesday.

“The family which lost these precious children is destitute and needs our support as a community to assist them during this difficult moment, lets come through and assist where we can and one of the houses in the homestead was destroyed by the fire and they are now stranded,’’ Maghambayi noted.

“Through my office, the Mukwe constituency councillor’s office, we have put in a submission to the regional council to see on how the family can be assisted. What has happened due to a natural disaster is heartbreaking,” he said.

The victims who lived in the same homestead were identified as Frans Thinyemba (13), Matamu Nyambi (4) and Folka Dinyando Kathumbi (5). The survivor was identified as Victoria Thinyemba (10), was rushed to Andara District Hospital for medical treatment.

The bodies of the children were taken to the Andara Hospital’s Mortuary for postmortem.
