Councilor slams ‘leaked’ investigation report

WALVIS BAY – Restrained Walvis Bay Rural constituency councillor Florian Donatus has raised concern over confidential police matters that may have been improperly leaked to the media.

This is after he has been directly linked to an unauthorised spending of over N$116 000 at Metro Swakopmund.

The alleged discrepancy was detected after Metro Swakopmund requested the Erongo Regional Council to settle the debt.

Sources within council told New Era that the alleged purchase was made without a purchase order from the council.

The sources say deodorant, Nivea cream and ice-cream were some of the items that were allegedly bought on council’s account.

“Council has an agreement with Metro, but to buy anything, one needs to have an approved purchase order. In this case, the person who bought the items did not have the authority to do so,” an official of council told New Era on Friday.

However, Donatus, through his legal team, Kadhila Amoomo Legal Practitioners, distanced and dismissed the claims and insisted he is not facing arrest.

“The suggestion that details of an imminent arrest have reached the media raises a serious concern that confidential police matters may have been improperly leaked,” the lawyers said.

The law firm said Donatus strongly disputes and rejects these reports as false, misleading and damaging to his reputation.

Donatus is currently restrained by the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) for alleged maladministration and corrupt conduct, preventing him from representing the party in the Erongo Regional Council.

“People have been coming up with all sorts of corruption claims to tarnish my name since I became the chairperson,” Donatus told New Era.

“This is nothing more than a witch-hunt against me,” he said earlier

Meanwhile, Erongo police Commissioner Nikolaus Kupembona confirmed the case is at an advanced stage and investigations are about to be finalised.

“We cannot reveal who is being investigated, but our investigations have been working around the clock to finalise the case. Once the person has been identified and if any arrest is being carried out… the law will take its course,” he said yesterday.
