Count your blessings….

Home Youth Corner Count your blessings….

When last did you look back and said, ” Dear God, thank you for blessing me with what I have?”

No matter what is going on in your life right now, good or bad, there are hundreds of good things in your life and you can only see them if you decide or choose to do so. Take a step back and think about all the things that you have but others do not.It can be the eyes to read this article, the ears to listen to music and birds tweeting happily in the trees, the people in your life or that one person in your life who support you. You might have overlooked the fact that you have a pillow to rest your head on at night, you have a pair of shoes, a functioning brain and many others things. Let us realise that blessings are not just material goods or money.

Do not just count your blessings and hide them under your bed, share them with other people in your life. No matter how little you think they are, there is someone out there who will be the happiest person alive if they had a quarter of what you have. In some parts of the world, children eat one meal in two days and all they have is hope for a better tomorrow. They do not know where the next meal is going to come from. Hence, instead of throwing away leftovers, hand them to a homeless person or give your unwanted clothes to those that do not have any. Having had the opportunity to go to school is a blessing that is greater than many others. Bring educated is an opportunity that creates many more opportunities and unlimited possibilities. If you have been blessed enough to be educated, share your knowledge, explain to people things they do not understand, and teach those that are willing to listen.

Just by helping someone fill in a deposit slip in the bank, you have shared your blessing like that. There is no such thing as little help because your help can make an enormous positive change in the other person ‘s life and you may not even know it. When you give, you receive. In a way it is like this; you give away what you currently have to make room for new blessings. There is so much pleasure in giving and knowing you have put a smile on someone’s face. Life is not perfect, we all have troubles but should not let them stop us from seeing the beauty around us. An ungrateful being is a miserable being, and a miserable being is the poorest being. Forget about money for a moment and think about the freedom to prosper, the right to love and having the right to choose the life you want to live, these are you biggest blessings. Whether you choose to be grateful and share them with others, that is entirely up to you.
