Court interpreter’s drunk driving case deferred

Home National Court interpreter’s drunk driving case deferred

WINDHOEK – The matter in which interpreter Victor Shipahu, 55, was caught driving under the influence was remanded to January 16, 2015.

The postponement was announced on Tuesday in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court on grounds the court wants lab results to determine the alcohol level in the accused’s blood.
He faces a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor, and an alternative count of driving with an excessive blood alcohol level.
The State alleges that on October 4 this year, Shipahu was caught driving while under the influence of alcohol or a drug having a narcotic effect.
Shipahu, a part time NBC interpreter who also interprets at the Katutura Magistrate’s Court is free on bail of N$4 000.
On Tuesday after Shipahu’s legal rights were explained to him, he indicated he would conduct his own defence.
Magistrate Surita Savage presided.
