This weekend’s fixture between Western Suburbs and Trustco United has been called off after two players from United tested positive to the contagious coronavirus earlier this week.
The two teams were set to lock horns tomorrow in an exciting Namibia Premier Rugby League clash in the capital, but after it was revealed two United players had contracted Covid-19 earlier this week, organisers immediately called for the postponement of the match until next week.
A management member from Trustco United, who opted to speak on condition of anonymity, confirmed the latest development to this publication yesterday, but said the situation was being attended to, and all protocols are being followed to ensure the two players are safe. “The game has been postponed after two of our players contracted Covid-19, as the results showed on Tuesday this week. This prompted the authorities to call off the game. The players are now in isolation,” said the source. Meanwhile, Namibia Rugby Union interim CEO, Theo Grunewald said: “We communicated with teams that if they happen to detect that players or anyone in the camp have contracted the virus, then it would mean the match have to postponed.”
Meanwhile, other matches will continue tomorrow as planned, with Grootfontein Rugby Club hosting FNB Wanderers, while Unam Rugby Club take on Rehoboth Rugby Club at the Unam stadium.
