Cricket receives boost

Cricket receives boost

Cricket development at the grassroots’ level received a major boost when Ashburton Investments injected N$800 000 into the Ashburton Kwata Cricket Development Programme.

Speaking at a press conference hosted by Cricket Namibia (CN), Ashburton Investments Chief Operating Officer, Gert Grobler assured their commitment to nurturing young talent.

Stakeholders were engaged and given an update on the latest developments at the FNB Cricket Stadium.

“Our core goal is to develop children from a young age, which has motivated us to continue our commitment to cricket development,” he said.

“We are very passionate about the youth. We understand how sport can play a crucial role in their development. Kwata Cricket focuses on underdeveloped areas of Namibia. Seeing the progress we’ve made in bringing more kids into the sport has inspired us to continue this partnership, and invest in the youth at the grassroots level,” Grobler added.

Since its humble beginnings in 2009, the initiative has aimed to bring cricket to communities across Namibia while promoting active, healthy lifestyles among young people, particularly in less-privileged areas.

What started as a small idea has grown into a nationwide success story.

Today, the Kwata Cricket Programme operates in all twelve regions of Namibia.

It has become a symbol of growth, unity and opportunity, providing a platform for children to engage with the sport they love.

With 72 trained coaches across the country, the programme has demonstrated the impact of investing in youth development.

Grobler also encouraged the young participants to remain dedicated, and push beyond their limits.

“To the children participating in the Kwata Cricket Programme, I encourage you to keep pushing your boundaries, stay focused on your goals, and remember that the skills you develop through sport will serve you in many areas of your life.

“Whether you aspire to be a professional cricketer or simply strive to be the best version of yourself, your journey matters. You are part of something much bigger,” he said.
