With only a week left before entries open for this year’s much anticipated FNB Otjihavera Experience two-day cycling competition, some of the country’s leading cyclists and mountain bikers are already gearing up for this prestigious gathering, slated for August 20.
The cycling event was launched last week at the posh Midgard Country Estate by FNB Namibia and the Rock and Rut Cycling Club.
“Cycling in Namibia has grown in popularity over the last few years and is managed and handled well by numerous clubs to make a variety of events unforgettable. This is an activity that can be enjoyed by the entire family and FNB Namibia is proud to be a supporter of this great sport,” said FNB Namibia Corporate Social Investment Manager, Revonia Kahivere,.
Conrad Dempsey of the Rock and Rut club expressed his appreciation for the continuous support and commitment of FNB as main sponsor, as well as Novel Ford as supporting sponsor, of the event.
“The event is Namibia’s biggest multi-stage mountain bike marathon and has grown into a regular on the Namibian cycling calendar. It also serves as bucket list event for many serious and ‘not so serious’ mountain bikers.”
Dempsey added that new to this year’s competition is that both days would start and finish at the Midgard Country Estate with a totally new route.
Day one’s route will take riders from Midgard over to Leopard Lodge before looping back to Midgard, while day two heads north towards Otjiterazu with both days including a good mixture of climbs to test the weary legs and fast fun sections, with more exciting single tracks as opposed to the past.
“This year’s event is only open to team entries, building on the fun of teamwork and camaraderie in this two-day event. Whether you are coming back to defend your title, a seasoned Otjihavera participant or a first-timer, use the winter to get some distance in the legs and come enjoy this fun weekend of mountain biking,” concluded Dempsey
Entries will open on June 2 and will be limited. Further details will follow over the next week and be released at www.rockandrut.org. Any enquiries can be sent to info@rockandrut.org.
