WINDHOEK – Since its inception last year, Cymot has now committed to be the headline sponsor of the annual Cymot National Road Cycling Championships, which gets underway in the capital this weekend.
The National championships will be held under the auspices of the Namibian Cycling Federation (NCF) and consists of the individual time trial, to be staged close to Rehoboth on Friday, starting at 16h00, with the road race slated for Sunday in Windhoek at 07h00, starting and finishing at the Cymot head office in the Northern Industrial Area.
The competition doubles up with the traditional Cymot Argus Warm-up Funride, which starts at 07h30 to be hosted by Windhoel Pedal Power while race commissairs have been placed under the care of Hella Rust and Gerrit van Schalkwyk.
Cyclists who want to participate must be paid-up members of any NCF-affiliated cycling club. Registration can be done online via the Cymot web page under the following link: ttp://www.cymot.com/namibia_cycling.php
With the development of cycling over the last two years, the NCF is expecting record entries and a high standard among the top performers. The Road Cycling National Championships are the most important seeding event for the NCF with some of the top riders to fight it out for top honours to wear the champions’ jersey for next year.
Furthermore, riders will be out to raise their hands for selection for upcoming international competitions that includes the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in July. The medal and champion jersey presentation (only Namibian riders qualify) will take place at the Cymot head office right after the finish of the elite men’s category at 12h00.
