Damaseb names final squad for Cosafa U/17

Head coach of Namibia’s U/17 girls’ national football team Errol Damaseb has finalised his squad for the upcoming 2025 Cosafa U/17 Girls’ Championship.

The event will be hosted in Windhoek from 10 to 17 May.

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) had initially cast a wide net, calling up a pool of 82 players from across the country for two-day selection trials held in Windhoek over the past weekend.

Following the trials, Damaseb trimmed the group down to a final 20 players, who will now don national colours in the regional tournament.

Namibia find themselves placed in Group A alongside Malawi and Comoros.

They will be aiming to rewrite its history in the competition.

The Baby Gladiators have had a challenging past in the Cosafa tournament, failing to win a single match across three previous appearances, with only two goals scored in seven matches.

However, playing at home could provide the spark needed for a turnaround.

The team will kick off their campaign on Saturday at 15h00 against Malawi at Hage Geingob Stadium, before facing Comoros on Tuesday at the same venue and time.

This year’s tournament format will see the group winners and the best second-placed team advance to the semi-finals, raising the stakes in the group stage.
