GOBABIS, 25 APR (NAMPA) – The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has announced 30 April 2025 as match day for the abandoned match between Omaheke’s premier league side Young African FC and Mighty Gunners FC from Otjiwarongo.
The fixture was called off by the referee in the injury time of the first half on 5 April 2025 at Gobabis with Young African leading by one goal to nil. It will be replayed at the Legare Stadium.
The referee cited poor lighting at the stadium as the reason for stopping the match unceremoniously.
A statement released by the NFA on Thursday indicated that after a thorough review of the referee report and general coordinator’s report and in line with the NFA Rules and Regulations which grant the referee the authority to abandon a match due to unsuitability of the ground or other factors, the abandonment was duly acknowledged.
The statement further said all match records from the previous game (abandoned) are thus erased.
It added that any cautions or dismissals issued during the abandoned match will remain in force.
Furthermore, NFA said the league will bear the reasonable costs associated with the rescheduled match.
The league authority also requested full cooperation from the teams involved to ensure all logistical arrangements are in place to facilitate the smooth running of this replayed fixture.
Contacted for comment, Young African head coach Maleagi Ngarizemo said the team accepted the outcome and moved on in the name of fair play.
“There is nothing much to say,” he said.
On his part, Mighty Gunners head coach Gebard Hengari said the decision was not surprising because the rules are clear regarding the scenario.
“Yes, we are going to start afresh and we are looking forward try and get maximum points out of the game in Gobabis,” he said.
The game will start at 16h00 on Wednesday.
