After a long hiatus from the music scene, Arthur !Nanub, widely known as Damara Dik Ding (DDD) will be releasing his new video titled ‘Namibian’, and hopes to reach one million views in one day.
DDD told VIBEZ! after completing the production of his latest video, he and director Errol Geingob from Desert Films made a bet that he could reach the million views mark.
“We got a population of 2.5 million in the country and online users are more than that. So, it’s only fair to say we will hit the number in 24 hours. I have a N$2 000 bet with the legendary video director on the line. Nothing is impossible,” he said.
The song represents Namibia and its urban and rural lifestyle, while sending a message that there is a need to be patriotic more than ever during these times. “We need to face and save our country from corruption, tribalism and poverty together,” he added.
The ‘Bakuten’ hitmaker said the difference with the latest video is how the filming was done during the strict restrictions which came about during the different stages of the pandemic.
“We shot it during lockdown when the attendance number was at 10 crew members. Losing family, limited resources, Namibians and the whole world are in a crisis. I think the sacrifices and risks were too much, and it drained us. This left us doing more with less, which in my opinion could indicate it differently from my previous work.”
On his part, Geingob said he was not thoroughly convinced about DDD’s assertions.
“DDD is convinced that we will hit the target of the million views but based on previous experiences, I am a little sceptical. Namibians don’t consume that much local content in a day. But this video is special because it’s DDD. One of the best, if not the best in Namibia. It’s a Namibian video that will resonate with whoever is a Namibian. Why it is different from others is that it shows unity in diversity and no fantasy,” he explained.
The video has a guest appearance from Dixon that was shot around Windhoek.
“I have seen enough to believe that it’s not impossible. If we understand the power of unity and patriotism, we will get one million views. All I know is that when Namibians decide, they react well. After all, this album and vibe is dedicated to Namibia.”
“If we don’t come together as a force, we will continue destroying this beautiful country’s resources and its future. If everything else fails, let’s paint pictures with art to educate and tell the stories about this country. This is why we have an unbalanced situation since independence,” he ended.
