Debmarine Namibia demonstrated its commitment to Green Leaves Primary School and welfare by donating food parcels aimed at spreading love and addressing food insecurity.
During the handover ceremony held Wednesday, Anna Ikela, the Communication and Marketing Practitioner for Debmarine Namibia, expressed the company’s dedication to making a positive impact in the community. With a donation worth N$15 000, Debmarine Namibia seeks to ease the challenges faced by students and their families, particularly in ensuring access to nutritious meals. The initiative will benefit 1 680 learners at the school situated in Windhoek’s Okahandja Park informal settlement.
Ikela highlighted the importance of the initiative, emphasising that it’s not merely about providing sustenance but also about nurturing the potential of future generations.
“We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, and by supporting schools like Green Leaves Primary, we contribute to their holistic development,” she stated.
The food parcels, carefully curated to meet the nutritional needs of the students, will benefit not only Green Leaves but also another school in Rehoboth.
The food parcel included top score maize meal, instant porridge, rice, macaroni, and canned fish, cooking oil, vetkoek/bread flour, soup packets, sugar and tea bags. The acting principal Sofia Haipinge expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the school, acknowledging the vital role Debmarine Namibia plays in supporting educational initiatives.
“This donation will go a long way in ensuring that our learners have access to nutritious meals, enabling them to concentrate better in class and achieve their academic goals,” she said. Haipinge said they currently have a soup kitchen at the school and it was introduced to help learners who come to school without a meal; the only meal they have is the one at school.
