Deceased, victim argued before fatal stabbing

Home Crime and Courts Deceased, victim argued before fatal stabbing

WINDHOEK – 22-year-old Simeon Uugwanga who was stabbed two weeks ago and died in hospital quarreled with his attacker a day before the incident, New Era has learned after visiting the infamous Eveline Street in Katutura last week Thursday.

According to sources at Eveline Street, the two quarreled on a Friday, and met at a bar the following day where they continued their quarrel, resulting in the fatal stabbing of Uugwanga. During a media briefing on Sunday, Chief Inspector Pretunilla Kauna Shikwambi said two weeks ago on Saturday at around midnight in Windhoek’s Eveline Street at Masipili Bar, 22-year-old, Simeon Uugwanga was stabbed with a knife after an argument with a suspect. Uugwanga was rushed to the Katutura State Hospital, but died upon arrival. However, the owner of the bar Lukas ‘Masipili’ Kambo, came to the New Era offices and pointed out that the stabbing did not happen at his bar. Kambo further said that when an incident is reported in Eveline Street, the police must go to the scene of the crime, to find out exactly where an incident took place, rather than to rely on hearsay. “People are jealous of each other, if one bar has more customers than others, then that owner will claim that an incident happened near that bar,” Kambo said.

Kambo, one of four brothers that form part of the management of the Masipili Bar, said since they opened the bar in 1996, nobody has been killed there, but his bar is always mentioned when someone dies in the area. “I am very angry,” he added. Kambo said that in July it was reported that somebody was stabbed at Masipili, while it happened at another bar. He also said that when people refer to Eveline Street, they say Masipili Bar, while in fact there are many bars in Eveline street. “If something similar happens, I will deal with them,” he warned, without specifying what action he intended on taking. In a media statement signed by Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi, the head of Nampol’s Public Relations division, apologized for the error. The statement read: “We hereby wish to correct our reporting and state that the incident took place at an unknown bar located in Eveline Street, Katutura. The Namibian Police Force apologizes to the management of Masipili Bar for inconveniences that it might have caused.” Meanwhile, the suspect has been arrested in Oshakati.
