“AIDS and the Youth” Digital Video Conference
The American Cultural Centre will host a digital video conference on “AIDS and the Youth,” at 16h00 on Wednesday, December 5.
Namibian educators and student volunteers from the Polytechnic of Namibia and the University of Namibia and members of community youth groups such as PAY (Physically Active Youth) and Young Achievers, will exchange views on the topic with an American panel consisting of Ebony Johnson, of the International Community of Women Living with HIV/AIDS from Washington Children’s Centre; Dr Yvette Butler, the founder of Gapbuster Learning Centre Inc, an organisation focused on academic achievement, peer-to-peer counselling and mentoring and de-stigmatising AIDS and two youth members of Gapbuster.
Mural Launch at Mandume Primary School
The second US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) funded mural will be launched this morning 11h00 at the Mandume Primary School.
The mural is the second of three murals painted at schools in Windhoek and Okahandja in an HIV/AIDS Awareness Mural Painting Project implemented by the John Muafangejo Art Centre.
The project’s vision is to create HIV/AIDS awareness; allow learners and artists to express their feelings on HIV/AIDS and to demonstrate the value of visual art in the depiction of cultural and historical heritage and social issues.
A fourth mural is planned for the Katutura Community Art Centre early next year.
