The Omaheke region-based outfit Desert Rollers Sports Club will hold its annual general meeting (AGM) today at 17h30 in Gobabis.

The club’s football team plays in the Omaheke’s league under the auspices of the NFA second division.

Speaking to New Era Sport, Ludwig Crooks Nunuheb, who is the club’s current chairperson, said the meeting will take place at the office of the Omaheke governor.

“Desert Rollers constitution stipulates that after every four years, we must have this constitutional meeting commonly known as AGM,” he explained.

Nunuheb highlights that the purpose of the meeting is to take stock of the previous four years of active participation in football, netball, rugby, beach football, futsal, angling, athletics, boxing and horseracing to account for the members.

On the agenda, the substantive chairperson said the meeting will share previous reports of the club’s executive committee, including financial report presentations.

“This will include approved budgets and the financial and administrative policies of the club. We will also present the strategic plan of the club as well as define the club status,” emphasised Nunuheb.

The club will also focus on the constitutional amendment, alignment of the governance structure, and revival of youth structures.

“It is high time that clubs need to have their own infrastructure and development of properties, and this will be tackled at our AGM,” he alluded.

Furthermore, the chairperson called on all the clubs’ sport codes to register their members.

“This will in the future be one of the requirements for members to attend conventions like this AGM, vote, or be voted at other events. We want to set in motion the Desert Rollers Sports Club family who will contribute on a quarterly or monthly basis, financially or materially, to this club in order to attain professionalism in the near future,” explained the chairperson, who played as a forward for the club.

The club was established in 1974 by indigenous tribes, especially students from Dobra High School in the Khomas region and Metsweding in Epukiro RC.
