With the club’s supporters already ecstatically overwhelmed by Valentine’s Day vibes, MTC Namibia Premier League (NPL) table toppers Tigers yesterday made sure they added to the celebratory atmosphere with a deserving 2-0 victory over struggling and defeated Julinho Sporting at Sam Nujoma Stadium in the capital.
With their latest victory, Tigers re-energised their league title race and subsequently took their lead atop the log standing to an amazing 51 points, while maintaining an unbeaten run of 21 matches in the MTC Premiership.
Goals from Tigers fullback Romario Ndjavera and Petrus Naftalie proved enough to overpower a hapless Julinho and ensure Tigers maintain a healthy grip on league proceedings.
Earlier on Saturday Tigers had beaten a stubborn United Stars by 2-1, also at Sam Nujoma Stadium, to set the wheels in motion prior to yesterday’s match. Having collected maximum points over the weekend, Tigers are now officially at the top of the league and have moved 11 points clear of closest title rivals Black Africa, who still have two games in hand.
Defending champions African Stars yesterday stumbled against a highly determined United Stars, losing 2-1 at Sam Nujoma Stadium, badly disrupting the great momentum that was built up earlier on Saturday when they defeated Julinho 2-0 at the same venue.
