Kavango West Governor Sirkka Ausiku has appealed to developers to construct office space in the region that could be rented out to government agencies, ministries and other clients.

Ausiku, in a speech delivered on her behalf, urged developers to build sufficient office space, as according to her, there are no proper facilities/offices to rent.

Ausiku’s welcoming speech was delivered on her behalf by Mpungu Constituency Councillor Titus Kandjimi Shiudifonya, who represented her at the official opening on Wednesday of new offices for the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA).

Ausiku said the reason government ministries and agencies are unable to set up offices in the region is mainly due to the lack of facilities. The trend of late has been to turn houses into offices, as was done by the NSA.

Ausiku said Kavango West Region is fairly young, but the NSA’s decision to open an office here sets a good example that should be emulated by all government agencies.

“They decided it is better to improvise, rather than to not have a regional presence at all. They turned a house into an office and for that I would like us to give them a round of applause,” she said.

“However, I would like to encourage our SMEs in Nkurenkuru and the whole region at large to construct office space for offices, ministries and agencies to rent, so they can stop renting houses as office space,” she stressed.

Ausiku further requested other institutions, who have not yet made progress in setting up offices in Kavango West, to follow “the good example of the NSA”, saying it is only through decentralisation that development and services can be brought to the far-flung regions of the country.

“I would like to welcome the NSA team to Kavango West Region. My office will personally ensure that we use the produce of your office to the fullest,” the governor said.

The NSA office in the capital of Kavango West, Nkurenkuru, will be headed by regional statistician Olavi Kapapero.
“People can come for any reports. Statistical information can now be accessed in the region. Everyone is welcome and the office is open from 7h30 to 16h30,” Kapapero said.

“The inauguration of this office is meant to promote statistical work and our presence in this region, as in other regions as well. It is not by coincidence that we decided to open offices in all regions. It is done with the purpose of ensuring that we bring statistics to the people and smoothen our statistical operations, in line with the decentralisation policy of our government,” said Osia Kaakuha, NSA’s executive director for operations, who represented Statistician-General Alex Shimuafeni.
