On Saturday, 6 August 2022, the national Kurt Böhme Speaking Competition was held at the DHPS, and the young speakers from different Namibian schools impressed with their talents.
The grade 9 and 11 learners did not make it easy for the judges: Dr Andreas Götze from the German Embassy Windhoek, Naita Hishoono from the Namibia Institute for Democracy, journalist and author Erika von Wietersheim, and Jasko Rust from Hitradio Namibia.
DHPS’ Gabriele Ritzdorf was able to impress the judges within the grade 9 junior category with her topic ‘Trophy hunting – killing for fun?’.
Arik Blatt from the Private School Swakopmund (PSS) spoke on ‘True/Product Beauty’ and was ranked second, while Kai Precht, also from PSS, ended third with his topic ‘Trophy hunting.
In the grade 11 senior category, DHPS learner Maike Metzger took first place with her speech on ‘Happiness as the goal in
life’.
Also from DHPS, Daniel Koch spoke on ‘Unconditional basic income’ and ended second, while Ndeshimona Huzatijke from Delta Secondary School Windhoek ended third with his topic ‘I´m sorry, no time’.
