Walvis Bay
Four people, including a French tourist, died over the past weekend in the Erongo Region, while no less than five road accidents were reported, including cases of reckless and negligent driving.
According to chief inspector Moses !Uwu //Kheib, the French national who was visiting Namibia tragically died on Friday afternoon in Walvis Bay. He said the tourist has been identified as 36-year-old Estelle Veronique Pheron.
She died on the spot when the vehicle she was travelling in with two others overturned near the popular tourist attraction, Sandwhich Harbour, located just south of Walvis Bay along the Atlantic Ocean. Her fellow passengers sustained only slight injuries.
On Friday a 26-year old female pedestrian died after she was struck by an approaching vehicle at the entrance to Walvis Bay. !Uwu //Kheib told New Era the woman, identified as Justine Thoefilus, was hit by the vehicle while trying to cross the road to Kuisebmond. She was rushed to Walvis Bay State Hospital but died about 20 minutes after her arrival there. Her next of kin have been informed.
On Saturday morning two teenagers died on the spot when the car they were travelling in overturned near Otjimbingwe. The two deceased were identified as the 20-year old Charles Ashley Rooinasie and the 15-year old Sakarias Ganeb. The driver sustained serious injuries and is currently being treated in Windhoek.
According to the police inspector two other persons were also injured in two separate incidents; one had to be rushed to Windhoek due to the severity of his injuries.
