One person died while eleven others were injured when two vehicles collided head-on on the road between Outapi and Okalongo.
The fatal accident took place near Anamulenge location last Friday, around 09h25.
It is alleged that a white Kia sedan, registration number N 1217 RC, travelling from Outapi collided with a silver Toyota Hilux pickup, registration number N 8354 UP that was going in the opposite direction, from Okalongo towards Outapi.
One of the passengers in the pickup died on the spot. Six other occupants in the same vehicle sustained minor to serious injuries. All five occupants in the Kia survived with injuries. The injured were rushed to Outapi District Hospital while those with serious injuries were later transferred to Oshakati Intermediate Hospital.
The deceased was identified as Bergitha Kamushishi, a 25-year-old Namibian woman from Ehungaelo village, Outapi Constituency. Her next of kin were informed.
According to the Omusati Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Lineekela Shikongo, both drivers sustained slight injuries.
Shikongo added that a case of culpable homicide was opened with the Outapi police.
No arrests were made in this regard yet, as the docket still had to be forwarded to the prosecutor general for a decision.
