WINDHOEK – The Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) is tapping into the charisma of Big Brother 2013 winner, Dillish Mathews, to promote domestic tourism. NTB has a new online marketing campaign called ShareMyNamibia that aims at enticing Namibians to explore their own country instead of jetting off to foreign lands for holidays.
“More Namibians are becoming travel conscious and would like to travel and spend their money around the borders of the country, therefore the ShareMyNamibia online campaign will promote domestic tourism by showcasing the incredible adventures that await Namibian travellers,” said NTB Chief Executive Officer, Digu //Naobeb.
Mathews was chosen as the face of the social media and online marketing campaign because she has more than 200 000 followers on social media platforms, and NTB expects her to influence and induce a large number of local followers to travel around Namibia, //Naobeb said.
She started travelling on Sunday and will for 11 days explore the tourism destinations in the country and share her experiences through her social media platforms.
Dillish, who recently arrived home from her 10-day European tour, said she didn’t hesitate joining the tour because all the costs are covered. “I just got here a few days ago and am honored to be ShareMyNamibia ambassador as I like travelling and most of all I want to promote Namibian tourism,” said Dillish
Klemens /Awarab Head of Marketing at NTB has also introduced a Travel Idea Guide App (app.namibiatourism.com.na) which is integrated into the NTB website to allow travellers to explore more as they make their way to their final destinations. He further announced that there is a Facebook competition in which three lucky Namibians can win a weekend for two at lodges featured on Dillish’s tour, namely Neura Wune Estate, Grootberg Community Lodge and Uukwaludhi Safari Lodge.
He further encouraged the public to join social media by sharing on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram their Namibian holiday experiences, with the hashtag #ShareMyNamibia #MyNamibiaHoliday.
