Dispatched thoughts – If you don’t want to protect yourself, protect others

Dispatched thoughts – If you don’t want to protect yourself, protect others

I am sure at this point in time we are or have all been affected by Covid-19 in some way. As for me, Covid has gotten closer to my family and I have seen first-hand the discomfort and consequences it brings with it. It is heartbreaking to watch someone you love suffer and not be able to do anything to make them better. If you don’t want to protect yourself, please take precautions and protect those whom you love.

Covid-19 has wreaked havoc in the country and in the last few weeks, it has especially hit hard and took the lives of some very prominent people. The sad thing is losses keep coming on a daily basis. These days we wake up to the news of someone who we know has passed on, or a friend or someone close who has lost someone in their family. It has been a sad period for most of the nation.

I remember hearing stories of what life was like during the war for independence. People at home would always be anxiously waiting for an update, they would always hear someone either passed on or got injured on the frontlines. I have come to realise that this is similar to what is happening during this pandemic – families are now receiving death notices on a daily basis.

Unlike during the war times, this time there is something you can do; you can assist in fighting this pandemic from wherever you find yourself without going to the frontlines, and it is quite simple: wear a face mask whenever you are out, sanitize your hands as often as possible, keep a safe distance from others, and just practice good overall hygiene.

More importantly, vaccines are now available countrywide and they are free. A good way to protect yourself is to get vaccinated. There are a lot of doubts and conspiracies surrounding the vaccines, especially from the youth. One look on social media and it becomes clear that some people are really against the vaccines or taking a jab, but that’s okay because everyone is entitled to their opinions and thoughts.

Looking at the Covid stats as they are released daily, it becomes clear that those who got the jab are less likely to get infected or die from the virus. You don’t have to get it for yourself, but do it for those you come in contact with. If you don’t want to protect yourself, protect others.
