One of the two grade seven learners arrested for the brutal murder of Kadana Laurencia, 35, and her son Samwere Thomas, 6, was acquitted in Rundu yesterday.
Two Grade 7 learners appeared in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on two counts of murder for killing the young mother and her son.

Kambinda Lucas, aged 19 at the time of the slaughter that took place in July last year, was acquitted when he appeared in court in Rundu yesterday for lack of witnesses though his co-accused Katombera Daniel, aged 18 last year, has a case to answer.

When the two victims were sent to an early grave the two suspects were Grade 7 learners at Pandureni Primary School in Masivi village near Rundu.

The two victims died after they were hacked with an axe in the shack where they were sleeping next to the shebeen where the mother worked as a bar attendant.
The deceased mother of two children worked at Ndina Shebeen No 2 and lived as a backyard tenant on the premises of the shebeen.

Katombera Daniel was represented by Petrus Strauss of Strauss Attorneys law firm in Rundu and Kambinda Lucas was represented by defence counsel Leon Kabajani. Magistrate Bongani Ndlovu presided while the Deputy Prosecutor-General Kakululwa Haindobo prosecuted.

The two teenagers were arrested on Tuesday July 22 last year after being identified by one child who miraculously escaped the bloody slaughter.
According to the police their bloodstained clothes also betrayed their guilt which led to their arrest.
