DRC, Iraq clinch final World Cup places

A goal from Burnley defender Axel Tuanzebe gave the Democratic Republic of Congo a 1-0 win over Jamaica to clinch a place at the World Cup.

Tuanzebe scored 10 minutes into extra time of the play-off, tapping in from close range after Jamaica failed to clear a corner.

The African side twice found the net in normal time, but Nathanael Mbuku and Samuel Moutossamy both had efforts ruled out for offside. The win earns the DRC their first World Cup appearance since playing as Zaire in 1974 and secured a place in a group alongside Portugal, Colombia and Uzbekistan.

Iraq claimed the final spot after winning their play-off final 2-1 against Bolivia.

Ali Al-Hamadi headed Iraq in front after 10 minutes, Moises Paniagua equalising seven minutes before the break.

But a goal from Aymen Hussein early in the second half sent Iraq to their first World Cup since 1986, completing a group featuring France, Norway and Senegal.
