Drogba Foundation commits to help Namibians

Home National Drogba Foundation commits to help Namibians

WINDHOEK – International football legend and African sports star, Didier Drogba, has confirmed that he will include Namibia in his annual fundraising initiative. Windhoek Lager, the flagship brand at Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL), and Drogba have enjoyed a successful and mutually beneficial partnership for the past year-and-a-half.

The Didier Drogba Foundation, which was launched in 2007, will open its first clinic in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, later this year. Drogba donates all his sponsorship earnings to the foundation and plans to provide mobile clinics to remote villages across the Ivory Coast. “The support the foundation has received so far has been overwhelming but we still have a lot of work to do,” said Drogba.
The football superstar says Namibia is very close to his heart. He visited the capital in November 2014 when he spent time with Windhoek Lager, meeting fans and also accommodated a meet-and-greet at the NBL head office to meet with staff.
“Didier Drogba is a world-class African hero and his passion to give back to African people resonates with us. As a brand, we admire the values he stands for and his commitment to his people that are less privileged,” said Rose Shippiki, National Marketing Manager at NBL.
Windhoek Lager will host six consumers from Namibia at a Didier Drogba Foundation Charity Ball on April 18, 2015, in London. These customers and consumers will be selected via promotions and they will get a chance to meet with world-class stars. Most importantly they will represent Namibia at the charity ball where the much-needed funds will be raised for a noble cause in Namibia, which will be announced at a later stage. “We are privileged to be able to work with a man of Drogba’s stature, and applaud the work that is being done through his foundation. He is a true world-class African hero,” concluded Shippiki.
