Drowned doctor’s body recovered

Home National Drowned doctor’s body recovered

WALVIS BAY – The body of a Namibian medical doctor from Windhoek, who drowned on Sunday evening at Swakopmund, washed out yesterday morning at the beachfront in Vineta.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Erongo Region, Andreas Nelumbu, yesterday said the name of the deceased could not be released as the next of kin are yet to be informed.

According to Nelumbu, the body was discovered around 10h00 about 500 metres from where the incident took place on Sunday evening.
He said the deceased and friends apparently barbequed between 19h00 and 20h00 at the recreational area in Vineta.

A strong current swept the doctor away while he was swimming, Nelumbu explained.

He said that despite efforts to search for the doctor launched Sunday night, his body was only spotted yesterday morning by contractors in that vicinity.

“It is an unfortunate situation and we would like to caution residents and visitors to the coast to be extra cautious when swimming, especially when it’s becoming dark. Drowning is a concern for Nampol, as this is the third drowning since January this year,” said the deputy commissioner.
