Taimi Haihambo

A tragic road accident at Okongo village in Ohangwena region claimed the life of a pedestrian on Saturday afternoon, leaving the community in shock.

The incident occurred when a white Toyota pickup, allegedly being driven by an unlicensed driver who was under the influence of alcohol, struck and killed Haindongo Nghidipohamba Kautwima, an adult Namibian male.

Police said the suspect lost control of the vehicle after hitting the victim and overturning, causing injuries to his passenger. 

The passenger sustained an open wound on his left arm but was treated and later discharged from Okongo State Hospital with the driver.

In a shocking twist, it is alleged that the decesead is the suspect’s uncle. 

Police investigations further revealed that the victim, believed to be mentally unfit, was standing along the main road when the accident occurred.
