E-Sports trials next month

E-Sports trials next month

The Namibia Electronic Sports Association (NESA) will host its national trials on 15 April in Windhoek.

The trials will also serve as a selection event for the World Championship, set to take place later this year. NESA has called on all members and aspiring e-sports athletes to participate.

Speaking to this publication, Salomé de Bruyn, NESA representative, reflected on last year’s achievements, and expressed hope for continued growth.

“Last year was a successful year for us, and we want to build on that momentum. This event is crucial in selecting a formidable national team that will represent Namibia on the international stage.”

She also highlighted one of last year’s milestones, where Namibia qualified for a major tournament in Casablanca, Morocco, which was unfortunately cancelled.

“Although the tournament was later cancelled, securing a spot was a huge achievement for us. It showed that Namibian e-sports is making strides,” she said. Looking ahead, she emphasised NESA’s commitment to providing more opportunities for players. “This is a national qualifier, and we encourage all gamers to showcase their skills. With several tournaments lined up this year, we believe more players will get the chance to compete at the highest level. We are also urging female players to take this opportunity seriously and participate.”

Despite people being hesitant to register, she shared that she is confident that they will come through. “We don’t have any yet, but people always wait until the last moment. Also, it’s only payday during this week, so we might start getting entries from Monday,” she added.
