Easter fishing competition at Ruacana

Fishing lovers and families are invited to enjoy a fun and relaxing Easter weekend at Mavinga Lodge & Campsite, which will host its Easter Fishing Competition on Saturday, 4 April 2026.

The lodge is located along the beautiful Kunene River, about 13 kilometres off the main road from NamPower Station in Ruacana.

It is surrounded by stunning nature and nearby Ovahimba homesteads, offering visitors a peaceful place to fish, camp, and enjoy the outdoors.

According to the organiser, Joyce Paulus, the event promises something for everyone.

“We are very excited to welcome anglers and families to Mavinga Lodge. The competition is a great way to enjoy fishing, meet new people, and spend quality time in nature,” she said.

Paulus added that participants are encouraged to arrive on Friday, as accommodation is available at both the lodge and the campsite.

“Registered anglers will get free coffee and tea in the morning and will also be entered into a lucky draw to win a fuel voucher,” she said.

Mavinga Lodge has been operating for over 10 years and has become a well-known spot for both local and international visitors seeking a genuine outdoor experience.

Visitors to the Easter Fishing Competition will not only enjoy fishing but also have the opportunity to explore the scenic riverbanks, relax under the shade of trees, and appreciate the calm and tranquil nature of northern Namibia.

Families can spend time camping, cooking together, and learning about the local Ovahimba culture in the area.

“The competition is not only about catching fish, but it is also about
promoting tourism in the Ruacana area
and giving everyone a chance to enjoy nature in a safe and friendly environment,” she added.

Prizes will be awarded to the best anglers, and the weekend promises fun, relaxation and new experiences for all who attend.
